Every adventure starts with a first step.
My first step feels like a leap as I leave my comfortable desk job that I really enjoy and join the British Antarctic Survey, with the prospect of not seeing my family and friends for over 12 months.
Luckily the support I've received has made the decision to go south easy. Everyone I've spoken to has filled me with confidence that this is the right decision and it's an opportunity I cannot miss. I would have probably taken the job anyway, but it's so nice to have the support of family, friends, and colleagues.
So in July I start my training to be deployed as the Wintering Communications Manager at Halley. Throughout my time at BAS I hope to write updates on my experiences, from training, through to deployment, and while I'm out in Antarctica.
